Sacred Self Care: Settling into Your Soul

Long days are so nice, especially when you have a little reprieve from the busy days of the rest of the year. I know for some of us nothing really shifts, we work year round. But what does shift there is more daylight, warmth, fresh fruits and veggies, flowers, and nature is vibrant and visible.

What the moon does is remind us that we can find ease this time of year. All the digging, the clarifying, the honoring, the deeper work we have embarked upon, well, we can truly receive at this juncture.

When there is a new moon there is new energy, it’s a reminder to begin again, get clear, have a new focus, and attend to the needs of our highest self in living our fullest life. We can settle down, tune and and attune to what our hearts are calling for and clarify our vision, believe in it’s possibility and see it as true. You down?!?

This month the moon sits with the sun in the sign of Cancer. Cancer energy is all about the inner contemplation, like how are you taking care of your inner world. It is a beautiful opportunity to know ourselves more deeply, to explore the energy that defines the core of our being but it is energy that is unseen, misunderstood and even unexplainable on some level.

What makes this such a remarkable time (I am biased by the way, my moon is in cancer, and well, it also sits in my professional house of how I like to take the lead in my life in order to lead others). Cancer is associated with the divine sacred mother and reminds us to make our light, caring for, tending too and making this sacred self care our highest priority.

Give yourself a moment on July 2nd to think on what will allow your light to flourish. Some good hints that are inspired by the current energetics of the cosmos – patience, love and care. Part of what will help you grow, take risks and feel secure though we are incredibly vulnerable is inner reliance.

Letting your inner self, your innate wisdom, know that you are listening and allowing your highest self be seen, heard and appreciated. This self assurance will take you far as even when you take a chance and it doesn’t go as planned, you are at peace as you were authentically aligned.

Another part of this cycle is feelings – emotions and needing to feel them all. The good news is they can guide you in the best way you can care for yourself. No need to fear your feelings, but rather enjoy this time to feel deeply so you can tune in to your potential more fully.

Your intuition, or inner compass, will help you in a major way. Yes digging into the deeper layers of yourself can seem a bit much, but when you are showing up to support the parts of you that are hungry for a change will reveal to you easily. This inner wisdom sweetly waits but is always hoping you will trust in your own potential to come home to yourself.

While you might have to get a little uncomfortable and vulnerable in order to settle into yourself, it is possible when you decide to slow things down. By being gentle with yourself you will find you are more willing to receive a life with more ease and support. If you can be comfortable in your own skin, commit to sacred self care, align with your soul, honor the deeper layers of your being you’ll be able to make radical changes.

Another interesting note is we will also be experiencing a total solar eclipse (only visible in South America). Eclipses are a little bit complicated, but strangely aligned cosmically. They inform the individual and the collective. It makes it a powerful time to evolve and step into a new way of being.

One thing I am doing is letting go of the need to have everything figured out before showing up and rather trusting my instinct and that feeling of wanting to run and hide once I take action of leaning into that space of vulnerability and give myself room to feel the pain, fear, and uncertainty.

So will you join me in envisioning a life that takes care of you? Where the energy flows effortlessly because you are honoring your innermost self, tending to her, nourishing her, caring for the deeper layers of you? It requires a bit of trust, the willingness to slow down, relax, and take action when our gut inspires us rather than when it is convenient, logical or even practical.

Come join my Facebook Group to embark on a 28 Day Sacred Self Care Journey. There will be inspiration, guidance, encouragement, community, accountability, fun, education, invitations and a deeper understanding of the work I do. The journey is free though I will be sharing information on ways you can take better care of yourself through Personal Growth, Spiritual Development, and Plant Based Supplements. In total transparency, I am completely over my head, but hey, I am trusting in the unknown and what matters most to me. Having you there will help me take this big leap – so PLEASE, come on! We get started July 2!!! Who knows if I’ll ever do this again!

New Moon – New Cycle

Looking at life and aligning it with the lunar cycle is a practice I have engaged in for over 15 years now. Anyone that has hung out with me on the yoga mat knows that chances are I will bring up the current lunar cycle and practice in alignment with the phase of the moon. This love affair with the moon happened as a young child. I was absolutely fascinated. Then one day someone suggested watching the moon rise, and well, in my early 20’s I was out looking for the moon and now in my 40’s enjoy the magic of a moon rise while I eat dinner with my own family. When I took an astronomy class in college my understanding of how our universe operates expanded at a level that, well, rocked my limited perception permanently. There was no way I could ever ignore this potent aspect of life again. Then as a yoga teacher I discovered the power of practicing in relationship with the moon. It is a practice that the farmers use and has been around longer than any of us reading this post and holds great insight to attuning to a more authentically aligned life.

A quick little Lunar 101… The moon offers a 28-day cycle with four quarters. The new moon, waxing moon, full moon and waining moon. Each quarter offers an opportunity to both be reminded of the bigger picture, but also to reflect on where we are in our life and how we are consciously engaging. From a yoga standpoint the moon is the feminine energy where the sun is masculine energy. From a physical science perspective it is a rock that rotates around our earth as we rotate around the sun. The reflective quality of the moon and it’s impact on the bodies of water on our earth all align with the emotions that can surface individually at either a new or full moon. If you are new to a lunar cycle, just start to notice the days when aspects of your life surface. Honestly, today, I had a moment with tears. It was easier to allow myself to feel what I needed to feel, carve out a little space for me to allow and accept, all because I knew it was a new moon – full of energy encouraging us to re-evaluate – which then allowed me to be more clear as I moved forward.

This January 16, 2018 moon is a Capricorn moon. Are their any Capricorns in the house?!?  Capricorn is an Earth sign, qualities of the earth include foundation, rational, consistent, and even pragmatic. When I teach around the earth energy, not only do I acknowledge the ground in which we stand, I honor the vehicle in which we experience this life. Self care, self love, are key aspects. This moon is all about reevaluating how we are engaging through the actions we are choosing. You can think of the moon as a chance to pause, breathe deeply, reconnect, refine, and then return. It is a chance to connect to your vision you hold for the year, what plans are you making, how can you connect to ways of reengaging with daily practices so that you feel nourished. You get to decide on the theme for your own year. The message you want to bring forward – you know – how do you want your light to shine? Feeding your inner self and nourishing your whole self are essential in allowing your light to expand by the way. Paying attention to what comes up for you the next few days can reveal areas that can inspire you. It can also be loud calls to acknowledge what is requiring your love and attention as well. What could be nourished and supported? What is ready to come alive? Have I mentioned it is a good time to care for you – have some fun, seek an adventure – which can be as simple as going to the grocery store and truly enjoying the journey :). The moon being in Capricorn reminds us to be grounded and steady. My recent newsletter shares on the power of being grounded and gracious. Sign up here if you want to be in the know!

A theme for me this year which is really about remembering my own truth – my own light – and honoring the calls for help as well as honoring the gifts I have to share. One of those gifts is knowing from both intellect and experience that living in a greater relationship with the moon offers a greater engagement with life. This works for me and so I am sharing it with you. What works for you? How are you able to be disciplined in taking action to living the life you desire? Perhaps it is just about sprinkling fun into your life. Perhaps it is about going easier on yourself. Or maybe you are just in the process of being curious. If you are new to the lunar phase – welcome! If you are an old pro and want to share any extra insights, please do! One thing the moon reminds me – no matter what sign, season or year – is a deep and real sense of belonging. Anytime we can remember we are part of something magnificent – reminded how sacred our essential nature truly is – no longer feeling separate from our collective truth – is a miraculous moment no matter where you are on your journey.

Anchored in Truth

As I start my morning, I have goose bumps. There is a chill in the air as the sun rises, it's a brilliant summer morning. The past few days since we've been home (or the past month for everyone in Louisville) has had some serious storms and flooding. Last night the power went out, we went to sleep in the dark. It was wonderfully quiet.

All appropriate since today, Wednesday, July 15, is the new moon in Cancer. My moon sign is also in Cancer, so this moon cycle resonates deeply with me. Each moon phase is a chance to renew, recommit or simply connect with a deeper illumination of your heart, soul, spirit. With the moon being in Cancer, well, it's an opportunity to connect to the feminine  aspects of ourselves, our motherly nature or guidance. A chance to turn inward with love, compassion, kindness. Easy right? Sometimes all this is fully of stormy emotions, disharmony & dispassion. Knocking the power out if you will.

Breathe deep my friend…as beyond that storm or flood waters….beyond the emotional currents that fill our hearts….is a brilliant truth. You are made of pure, vibrant love. This amazing grace is readily available & woven deep in the fabric of your being. There's just a few things that need to be done, healed and cleared to be more fully anchored in this truth. Releasing the unconscious ties we discover a great anchor that holds us steady in love, light & beauty despite the rough sea.

With this moon cycle we are all invited to expand our awareness & consciously choose to live more fully, to stand more authenticly in our light. As the moon is new, there is more darkness as she rises and sets with the sun. So the moon's guiding light of the dark sky is simply blinded by the radiant light. We too then are allowed to turn and align more fully with the radiant light. To trust, know & expand in such a way that we become the being, the individual & collective conscious that chooses brilliance despite the forecast.

Thanks to Mystic Mama, Lena of The Power Path, KK Ledford & Gloria Siry for the lunar & astrological inspiration. If you are interested in making a shift to live more in alignment with your own brilliance, email me directly.
