The Beauty of Becoming: Scorpio Season
Honoring the depths of life and the wisdom of what lies beneath.
Every day the sky changes and shifts the background of our lives and how they are animated. When the sky shifts into Scorpio the Sun sits in new energy. The natural world here in the northern hemisphere begins a descent into the quieter months of the year. Notice how quickly the sun sets and we are greeted by the twinkling stars.
The trees surrender their leaves, the fields are put to rest, and the earth prepares for the quiet stillness we know as winter. What was once vibrant and visible begins to retreat beneath the surface hiding the illuminative energy that comes with the longer days and warmth of summer.
Yet life is still living and in no way has she disappeared.
Beneath the fallen leaves, within the soil, and deep in the roots, nature continues its quiet work. What has completed its cycle becomes nourishment for what is yet to come. The mystery is quite magical and can expand wonder, awe and remind us of our potential.
For me it feels there is a sacred beauty in this process. One that reminds us that life is more than a simple a journey of growth and expansion. We are reminded that life really is an ongoing relationship with beginnings, endings, and everything in between. That everything in between is the sustenance that can seem stubborn and demanding but is also what allows for a beginning and ending and even the energy that extends beyond.
Scorpio Season brings with her an invitation to explore this relationship within ourselves.
Our Hidden Dimension
All things Scorpio are often associated with sex, death, taxes, secrets, and the taboo, A reputation for intensity and mystery that hurts, stings and causes crisis. Except I believe beneath these familiar associations lives something profoundly human, a sacred depth if you will. Where perhaps this depth is actually a space for our relationship with vulnerability, intimacy, trust, loss, and the parts of ourselves we have learned to protect.
Consider this for a moment. What if instead of fearing the depths of our experience we approached this sacred depth as something worthy, deserving of our care and understanding?
Sitting with this energy in this way we can see the beauty of Scorpio is more than just its capacity for transformation. While this is very true, there is also an invitation to remain present to the fullness of life, even when that life asks us to encounter what is uncomfortable, uncertain, or unseen. A place where we recognize the discomfort but stay the course because there is something significant available to us on the other side.
Astrology as Care: Honoring What Lies Beneath
As I clarify my approach to astrology, I feel rather strongly that the celestial language offers a symbolic framework for exploring our inner worlds. Looking to the cosmos for care is less about predicting what will happen or defining/telling who we are, a powerful approach just not one that resonates for me. What I have been sitting with and am sharing here is how astrology can provide an opportunity (or sophisticated nudge) to become curious about the many dimensions of our humanity including our part of being connected with and for humanity.
What scorpio does is invites us, maybe even mandates us, to look beneath the surface.
Going Deeper
We all carry experiences, emotions, beliefs, and protective patterns that have developed throughout our lives. Because it is super cool how we are hard-wired. Some of these are readily available to our awareness, while others remain tucked away, quietly influencing how we relate to ourselves and the world. Think about it, even emotions are hard to name, label and feel most of the time.
Most of us have often learned to hide the discomfort or protect our beliefs and this survival mechanism developed for good reason.
Parts of ourselves had to learn to remain guarded after experiencing betrayal. Another part learned to hold close or tightly so that we could control when uncertainty and stress feel overwhelming. Then another part that carries grief that had to find her way because she was never given the space or tenderness she deserves.
These are not parts of ourselves that need to be fixed, rejected, or eliminated. They feel to me to be parts asking to be seen, acknowledged and given the space to be understood.
No Bad Parts
This is a perspective that resonates with a compassionate understanding that there are no bad parts, just misunderstood energy. Or in this case, no bad signs! Even those patterns that are really good at creating difficulty in our lives just might have originated as attempts to preserve something precious. To protect our vulnerabilities, exiled energy and manage life in a way to play it safe.
If we could approach ourselves with curiosity rather than criticism, we might find there is room to create a different relationship with these experiences. That sometimes, within this understanding, something begins to change.
Transformation does not always require us to become someone different. Sometimes it begins when we develop a more compassionate relationship with who we have had to be.
The Courage to Protect and the Wisdom to Transform: Mars & Pluto
Each sign has a rulership. Leo is the Sun, Virgo is Mercury, Libra is Venus and traditionally Scorpio is ruled by Mars. Mars is the planet associated with courage, action, drive, will power, and our instinct to protect and preserve life.
Mars has a recognizable outward expression of assertion, passion and initiative, Scorpio’s courage to look at things more deeply introduces us to another dimension of this planetary energy.
Courage to Protect
Sit with this for a moment. Here courage looks less like charging forward and more like remaining present. A steady persistence that penetrates to a different level of awareness, a different experience, a new energy that alchemizes the energy before us.
It takes courage to acknowledge vulnerability, to establish boundaries, to recognize what matters deeply, and to stay in relationship with ourselves when life becomes difficult. It is a fierce love that asks us to do things differently and surrender our need to control and allow a recognition that can be both intellectually informed and offer reverence or demand the courage to reconcile.
Mars reminds us that these protective instincts and managing layers are not inherently something to overcome because they are very much a part of being human. And we are all human because we hold the capacity to feel.
What is it within you that seeks protection? What is precious enough, that matters deeply, to deserve your care?
The Hidden Power of Change
There is so much depth to Scorpio’s that it also has a modern planetary ruler, Pluto. Because before humanity advanced they had no idea there was a distant object orbiting with us. Even Pluto was discovered as a planet then was reduced to an asteroid and in 2006 was renamed a dwarf planet! But in astrology it holds the significance of the hidden, or shadow, influence in our lives and adds another layer to the exploration regarding this post.
Associated with the underworld, hidden truths, power, and profound transformation, Pluto symbolizes the processes through which life changes form. In some systems of astrology the aspects Pluto makes and where it resides in your chart is one of the most significant points of astrology. Here though Pluto’s significance resides in the invitation to consider what lies beneath our familiar and comfortable patterns then to look to how our relationship with these patterns might want to or need to evolve.
Planetary Guidance
Mars helps us recognize what we are protecting where Pluto asks (some would say demands) us to explore what becomes possible through acknowledgement and understanding.
Together, these planetary guides, and the way they wander through the sky, remind us that protection and transformation are not opposing forces. Actually, they can sometimes show us the very thing we are protecting is what needs our attention before we can experience renewal. The reconciliation brings out a revival through reverence and then we find our ability to return renewed.
The Wisdom of Remaining: Fixed Water
Each sign has an element and a modality, which is the way the element takes shape and expresses itself. Leo is fixed fire, Virgo is mutable earth, Libra is cardinal air and Scorpio is fixed water. Quick anchor/review. Cardinal initiates or creates. Fixed sustains, and Mutable dissolves or brings closure. Scorpio sustains the season as it is the middle and is associated with the element water.
In astrology and her sister sciences, water represents our emotional and intuitive nature: the feelings, memories, attachments, and inner experiences that shape our relationship with life. This is the soul of our experience or dimension of self.
The fixed modality brings steadiness, endurance, loyalty, and the capacity to remain committed to what matters.
Opposites Unite
Putting them together, fixed water offers a remarkable capacity for emotional depth. The force of the water that helps the energy change shape like a water fall beating down on a rough stone will ultimately smooth it out and soften his groves.
Would you agree? There is a beauty when we willingly remain present, feel deeply, and honor the significance of our experiences. Perhaps I am biased because I have been able to witness for decades the clarity that surfaces when the discomfort is held long enough to change.
Comfort Zone
No doubt though this same capacity has also lead us to hold incredibly tight to what became familiar, even when that familiarity is painful. Seldom do we declare, today I will step out of my comfort zone. Often though we have to be brave and courageous, calling on a power bigger than ourselves, to get uncomfortable and embrace growth.
Many of us, myself included, continue protecting ourselves from circumstances that no longer exist. No one is at fault by the way, the brain doesn’t know the difference between what was, what is or what is yet to be. Often circumstances unfold where we remain attached to an identity, relationship, or belief that once provided stability but no longer reflects who we are becoming.
Scorpio energy is not about demanding we let go. Instead, scorpio energy invites us to ask:
What has this been holding for me?
What has it been protecting?
Is there another way I might care for what matters?
There is a difference between releasing something we believe is wrong and allowing something to change because we have come to understand it more fully. Or at least accept it a bit more deeply. Because let’s face it, somethings just make zero sense to our rational selves. And when we accept or allow there is the possibility of transformation through compassion, care and nourishment.
A Sacred Descent: Persephone and the Wisdom of the Unseen
One of my favorite goddess myths comes to mind with this change of season. Persephone, whose descent into the underworld is very much intertwined with the cycles we experience here on earth.
In a familiar (and highly simplified) telling, Persephone is taken into the underworld by Hades, and her mother, Demeter, grieves her absence. The earth becomes barren until Persephone’s return, when life begins to flourish once again.
The ancient story carries themes of abduction, power, separation, and loss. Yet mythology also offers us the opportunity to reflect upon these stories through different perspectives.
When I read The Goddess Within, I found myself drawn to a much more feminine-centered interpretation. For years now, I have considered Persephone’s relationship with the underworld not solely through what happened to her, but through what this journey may have awakened within her. A decent where she came to know more about herself?
Myth Re-imagined
Let’s imagine that Persephone discovered the underworld, despite its darkness, contained a wisdom she could not find elsewhere. What if the pomegranate seeds became a symbol of her continuing relationship with this unseen dimension of life, rather than only a consequence of captivity?
And what if we questioned the assumption that someone so beautiful could never be interested in such a contracted place? That the only explanation for her mother’s grief was that Persephone had gone unwillingly and was forced to stay against her will. That there was power over her rather than power within her.
What if we have become so accustomed to fearing the darkness that we struggle to imagine anyone willingly developing a relationship with it?
Okay, this is my own contemporary reimagining and not a replacement for the ancient myth. But reimagining is exactly what has allowed humanity to advance. Because look, as a woman I can have access to this story and sit here and freely right my thoughts on the internet for anyone to read. Some would still say this is highly dangerous because it challenges to the norm that keeps things the same. But I will pause there before I go into a rant.
A Little Prayer
This reimagining brings into view a consideration of the possibility that we hold the ability and capacity to develop a relationship with the depths of our experience without being defined by them. And if you have ever had to walk the dark hallways of your soul, you know there are elements there that you don’t have to excavate but you do ultimately have to return.
Just as Madonna shares, ‘life is a mystery, everyone must stand alone…and it feels like home’..
For much of recorded history, the stories, philosophies, and astrological traditions that have reached us were shaped and preserved through male voices and perspectives. What we are realizing in this time of history is how there are other, many ways to understand the emotional, receptive, intuitive, and unseen dimensions of human life.
And in no way will we tolerate burning down, executing this innocent, all be it powerful, expression of life.
Because these dimensions are not inherently weak, dangerous, or undesirable. These dimensions are worthy of dignity and deserve to be supported, held and nourished.
Astro Perspective
Historically, certain astrological traditions treated some signs and houses, like the water signs, as less than desirable or favorable including places associated with difficult emotional experiences. Feminine wisdom re-invites us to recognize and reclaim the value of receptivity, emotional knowing, cyclical living, and the capacity to remain present to life’s mysteries.
This feminine uprising is not to cause harm or hysteria, but to restore a wisdom that relieves us of harm and restores dignity of our full human experience.
We do not need to conquer and curse the darkness, or avoid the deeply contractive states that leave us feeling isolated and alone to discover its meaning. Nor romanticize suffering to recognize that our experiences of grief, uncertainty, and vulnerability can deepen our understanding of what it means to be alive.
Remembering
Perhaps Persephone reminds us that we can belong to more than one world. That we can honor both the light and the shadow, the blooming and the resting, the joy and the sorrow, the expansion and the contraction.
And that neither dimension needs to be abandoned for us to experience wholeness.
Where our psyche is actually asking for flexibility – we just don’t know how to work with the entire spectrum yet.
Valuing Life Through Change: Taurus – Scorpio Axis
Every zodiac sign exists in relationship with its opposite, offering complementary wisdom. As we have seen so far if you have been following along: Leo & Aquarius; Virgo & Pisces; Libra & Aries. For Scorpio, the relational axis is with Taurus.
Taurus, just like Scorpio, Leo & Aquarius, is a fixed sign. Scorpio is water and Taurus is Earth ruled by Venus. Notice we have this dynamic of a sign ruled by Mars, and a sign ruled by Venus. This opposition of energy actually invite a tangible beauty of life. Taurus moves us through our senses, our bodies, our relationships, and the resources that sustain us, Taurus reminds us of the value of being here in very tangible ways.
Fixed Energy = Sustenance
The fixed earth energy of Taurus encourages us to cultivate stability, appreciate pleasure, and recognize what provides nourishment and security. Scorpio, sitting at the furthest point – 180º – from Taurus brings us into relationship with what happens when what was familiar in form changes.
Relationships evolve. Our values shift. Circumstances that once offered security may have fragmented, shattered or disappeared and now longer exist. We encounter loss, uncertainty, and the realization that not everything we cherish can remain as it has always been. No one is free of this cycle either. Every human comes into the world as an infant and come midlife is far removed, even unrecognizable, from the moment they first arrived.
This change, development and process of evolving does not diminish the value of life.
The Value of Change
Taurus teaches us to value life. Scorpio teaches us to remain in relationship with life even as its forms and values change.
Together, they remind us that security and transformation are not mutually exclusive.
Taurus gives us resources that bring our talents, our innate worth forward into embodiment. Scorpio asks for intimacy and to share the resources with one another so that we can recreate, replenish and revive our embodiment’s expression.
When these two come together, we get to appreciate what is present while recognizing its impermanence. We can honor what has been while remaining open to what is becoming. One promises life and beauty, the other promises death and renewal. You cannot have life without death and you cannot have death without life.
Celestial Rhythm: Scorpio New Moon & Taurus Full Moon
As the moon dances around the earth they both answer to the Sun’s positioning. As the earth moves further from the sun, the days contract and the night expands. While the backdrop of the season is scorpio, when the moon meets up with the sun we have a scorpio new moon. And when the moon is furthest from the Scorpio Sun, we have a Taurus Full moon.
Every single time, for billions of years. Mind blowing really – the constant presence of this mysterious dance.
Taurus Full Moon
The Taurus Full Moon during Scorpio Season offers a beautiful opportunity to contemplate this relationship that is being explored through a celestial rhythm and meaning. Each month the full moon reflects back to us the things we couldn’t previously see. An expansive promise when moments feel deeply contractive.
It is a seasonal exploration of what we are protecting because it matters, because it is significant in our own need to survive. A simple reflection:
What are we holding close, keeping it sacredly protected because it nourishes us?
And what are we holding because we fear what life would feel like without it, the uncertainty of the mystery leaves us us afraid of loosing control?
Both questions ask for depth and deserve a tenderness.
Scorpio Through the Twelve Houses: What Is Seeking Protection?
Remember, within our natal chart, the 12 houses represent different dimensions of our lived experience. As the energy of Scorpio travels with the Sun, we are given celestial guidance by looking to the house Scorpio occupies in our own chart as a symbolic place of inquiry.
This may be a more sophisticate/advance exploration, but you can also look at who rules your 8th house to better understand how the hidden energy is expressed as well.
This exploration is not asking what needs to change or be transformed. If it did, for those of us that have our natal sun in Scorpio or in the eighth house that transformation would be fixed and we would never catch a break. (Um I have a ton of 8th house energy btw, so I feel a ton of agency in this request.
Protection and Potential
As we move through the houses, consider what may be seeking protection and what becomes possible when we offer that part of life greater understanding, connection or even space to be held, seen and dignified.
These reflections are gentle nudges of curiosity and wonderment. Not projections, predictions or assumptions about your truth and experience. If you read each house you will know there is a resonance to all of it and when you arrive at where this sits for you there will be reverence.
Ultimately you hold agency over your lived experience, the exploration through these 12 houses are a creative process to support that agency!

Rather than demanding transformation, this placement invites us to recognize the vulnerability inherent in sharing our lives with others and the wisdom that can emerge through compassionate understanding.

Purpose, Public Identity & Wisdom: Tenth House
Tenth House, Scorpio explores our relationship with responsibility, achievement, leadership, and the identity we present to the world. Our desire to contribute or be recognized may be accompanied by a need to protect our reputation, competence, or sense of authority. Scorpio invites us to consider what lies beneath our ambitions and how our public expression might reflect a more intimate understanding of our values and purpose.
Orientation: What am I protecting or hiding through achievement, responsibility, or reputation?
Reflection: What does this reveal about my approach to public recognition, contribution, and my governing wisdom?
Community, Technology & Network: Eleventh House
Eleventh House brings emotional depth to our friendships, communities, shared ideals, and visions for the future. Belonging can feel particularly meaningful when we find others who honor our truth, yet participating in groups also asks us to navigate trust, differences, and vulnerability. This placement invites us to recognize what we seek to preserve within our connections and how we might participate in community without losing our individuality.
Orientation: What ideals, friendships, vision or hopes for the future do I seek to preserve?
Reflection: What helps me experience connection and representation while remaining true to myself?
The Unseen Inner World: Twelfth House
The Twelfth House brings Scorpio into the quieter dimensions of our psyche, where memories, emotions, dreams, and experiences may exist beyond our immediate awareness. Here, the instinct to protect can take the form of withdrawal, silence, or keeping certain feelings safely out of view. Scorpio invites a gentle relationship with these unseen dimensions, recognizing that not everything needs to be exposed or explained to deserve our compassion and care.
Orientation: What feelings, memories, or parts of myself have needed to remain hidden?
Reflection: How might compassionate attention help me develop a safer connection with what has been unseen?
You do not need to have planets in Scorpio to engage with this seasonal invitation. Every natal chart contains all twelve signs, each offering its own symbolic expression within our lives.
Holding What Hurts: The Beauty of Being Present
Much of my professional life has involved sitting with people as they navigate uncertainty, significant life transitions and grief. This has brought an awareness and appreciation that grief is not simply something we experience when someone dies. Grief shows up in the loss of an identity, a relationship even friendship ending, a dream not coming to life or even a sense of safety and the life we thought we were moving towards.
Grief is an uncomfortable reminder of what matters. What held significance, those engagements and encounters that influenced our life.
Discomfort of Life
The world we live in often mandates that we quickly move through discomfort, find the lesson, make meaning and get back to living – moving forward. There is little space to say – hold up, this aspect of my life that I have invested in – that has invested in me – isn’t moving forward so maybe I need to pause or hold what hurst to care for myself and figure out what I need.
Being given the opportunity to be present to what hurts, the sadness, the sorrow, without having to make it better, solve it or turn away from the messy layers of life.
The dignity that reveals itself when she is witnessed without judgment and without shame where we have our experiences and real life encounters recognized without someone rushing to change them. It is where I get to see the beauty in the tears that fall knowing how uncomfortable too it is to actually be witnessed.
A Privilege in Life
This sadness, the sorrow, the deep contraction into oneself where they are uncertain of what life can possible be life and feel like because what they have known is now completely fragmented and is asking for an acceptance that is one of the hardest expressions of being alive. Then being able to have the privilege to witness when someone discovers that they do not have to abandon their vulnerability to be strong. Or they don’t have to mask their pain to be accepted.
There is a recognition, or space that lets them breathe into the uncertainty and still trust themselves to participate in life.
These are experiences have shaped my understanding of care and reciprocity, both personally and professionally.
Holding Space
Being given the room to not feel like we have to transform our pain into something beautiful or powerful. Where we do not need to find a purpose for every difficult experience. Because when someone is ‘going through it’ they can’t even receive the words ‘what do you need’, ‘one day this will all make sense’, ‘life only gives you what you can handle’, ‘you are so brave and strong’.
While these come from an honest and caring space, the brain and physiology are processing something that is beyond our ability to process, accept and make sense of. Some losses hurt so bad our brain get’s foggy, our digestion goes wonky and our brilliance goes a tad dull for a while.
Giving Yourself Grace
The thing though, whether you have been here or you know someone that has, loss asks that we can learn to relate to ourselves with greater compassion as we move through our lives, days, and breaths. That we feel into it with care and allow ourselves to be held by the mystery of life and meet ourselves with grace.
For me, Scorpio holds so much meaning, and maybe this is one of her more hidden invitations.
We can honor what hurts without allowing it to define the entirety of who we are. We can weave into our sense of self the crossing of a threshold – or as one of my friends and guides shares, recognize the earth school initiation.
The Beauty of Becoming
As Scorpio Season unfolds, the earth continues her descent toward winter. The shortened days and lengthened nights. The quiet whisper of what is yet to be.
The fallen leaves return to the soil. The roots remain beneath the surface. What has completed its season becomes part of the nourishment for life yet to emerge. There is no urgency in this process and the compost heap holds wisdom, power, grace and nourishment.
Nature does not demand that the trees bloom before they have rested, nor does it consider the quiet months a failure of growth. There is wisdom in allowing life to move through its natural rhythms. This time of year, decorated by the symbolism of Scorpio reminds us that we, too, are part of these cycles.
Innerstanding
Life asks us to continually learn what truly matters to us, discovering what needs our care, and developing new relationships with the experiences that shape us. Each phase of growth and development moves us into a need to review and reconsider where we place our focus.
By attending to what is hidden, the unseen energy or what lies beneath the surface, nourishing what has been longing for protection and acknowledging through our own ‘innerstanding’ (you know the part of ourselves that only we can see and experience) that this energy is valuable and deserves to be a part of how we live.
On the Horizon
Eventually the background will move into Sagittarius closing out the fall season. Knowing this comes next, the energy that asks us to expand our gaze out toward a wider horizon, carrying with us whatever wisdom the depths have offered. And wisdom comes from the depths of our own knowledge and experience that have composted together.
We aren’t trying to conquer the contracted heaviness of life to emerged as someone entirely new. That wider horizon of potential comes regardless and Scorpio’s wisdom soars into greater peace because we develop a deeper reverence with the full expression of life.
This, for me, is the sacred beauty of becoming.
A willingness to remain present to life, in all its changing forms, while honoring the whole of who we are being so-fully you.
Celestial Care Invitation
Astrology, the language of the stars, offers a meaningful way to explore our inner worlds, recognizing our natural rhythms, and cultivating a compassionate even sacred relationship with ourselves. A relationship of ‘innerstanding’ where we can be real and be true.
Through Celestial Care, I use the symbolic and metaphoric language of astrology as a reflective guide for self-understanding, intentional self-care, and authentic living. It is self reflective in nature to help cultivate a deeper connection with one’s own truth.
If you are curious about the wisdom held within your own natal chart, a Celestial Orientation Reading offers a place to begin. This orientation is rich and affirming. Together we spend time in conversation about the unique landscape of your chart, honoring your experiences, your inquiries, and the possibility of becoming soul fully yourself!
